The United States 3D Raised Relief Map provides an accurate model of both the topography and the bathymetry of the contiguous 48 United States and surrounding waters. You can literally feel the elevation changes from the San Joaquin Valley to the peaks of the Sierra Mountains and from the continental shelf to the depths of the Atlantic Ocean's Hatteras Abyssal Plain. While highlighting our country's geophysical features, this map is also annotated with state and international borders as well as state capitals and major cities.
It is available in three formats: fully framed and ready to hang in a black anodized aluminum frame (see the additional photos); mounted on foam-board and ready for you to frame yourself; or unframed, perfect for pinning to a bulletin board.
Please note: If you plan to order a frame-ready map, we recommend you order your frame after you receive the map. This will allow you to choose the frame depth and dimensions that will work best.
Each raised relief map starts as a map printed on a flat study sheet of vinyl. It is carefully registered over a 3D model that is made from USGS digital elevation model data. The vinyl is heated to make it pliable and a vacuum is created to form the map over the model. Take a look at the process below.
